Nomenclature of the variables

The names of the variables are composed of different abbreviations which are connected by underline characters. The abbreviations are deduced from the English language. To specify a variable, abbreviations (in capital letters) concerning the most important information are ordered as follows:

  • Module (only for validation, costs and river loads)
  • Emission pathway or kind of variable;
  • Parameter, factor or ratio;
  • Environmental compartment, ratio or calculation approach;
  • Source and
  • Substance group or substance

Detailed specifications for the abbreviations are made in lower case letters after the main abbreviation.

Step 1

The first abbreviation in the variable name (step 1) indicates the module which uses the variable. However, it is left out if the variable belongs to a substance emission module, which is why this position is left blank in most cases.

Abbreviations for the respective modles of the variables in MoRE.
Abbreviations English term German term
RM river module Gewässermodul
VM validation module Validierungsmodul
CM cost module Kostenmodul

Step 2

The following abbreviation (or the first, in case of the substance emission module) represents the category of data or emission pathway (step 2).

Abbreviations for the kind of input data and emission pathways.
Abbreviation English term German term
BI basic information Eingangsdaten

In some cases the emission pathways are extended with a more precise description. The abbreviations used are depicted in the following table:
